French Ronde
English Roundhand
or Copperplate

This elegant, formal hand is indispensable to the professional
calligrapher. Taught from the very basic beginnings it will help students of
all levels. Practiced as a fluid, calligraphic hand it will become a
favorite instead of a fearsome chore. Wedding invitation? Of course, I can
do that fancy script!

The workshop is two days long and is based on the workshop the my
late husband taught. (Dick Jackson.) Though his book is now out of print,
it has been a favorite text for this beautiful hand.

Teacher's note: Many have asked regarding Italic calligraphy classes.
Unfortunately, interest in a 4-6 week class has been sporadic at best, with
schedules conflicting. I am happy to offer a calligraphy class, but need a
minimum of 4 students in each one. Also, in order to correctly learn the
lettering techniques, five hours of weekly practice time outside of class
is a necessity. Students must make the time to practice. If you are
interested in a calligraphy class, please give me a call so we can get one
together. NOTE: A beginning Italic class will start in March, 1997.

COPPERPLATE CLASSES, BEGINNING OR INTERMEDIATE

Instructor: Gwen Weaver

Weekend Workshops

In the Beginning Copperplate Class, students are introduced to - and
encouraged to feel comfortable with - the oblique pen. The alphabet is
broken down into individual stroke sequences and pressure patterns that
take all the mystery away!

The Intermediate Class is for those who are already familiar with
Copperplate but may need some fine tuning or brush up. The alphabet will
be dissected and studied and students own Copperplate hand gently
critiqued.

THE"OTHER" POINTED PEN

This class is for those wishing to study pointed pen, but prefer the "other"
hands. We explore Roman, baby and adult, Italic, Uncial and other
traditionally chisel edged pen hands with the pointed pen. Who says we
can't do that? It's fun!

Instructor: Kate Gladstone

Guilderland, New York, USA

Guilderland Central High School Continuing Education Program
10-week class, 2 hours a week
registration opens 6-January-1997
classes begin 3-February-1997

As the name suggests, this is a class in handwriting improvement. Starting
with their ordinary handwriting, students will learn how to make this more
efficient by transforming it, step-by-step, into a simpler style (italic

Individual problems will be eliminated -- individual character will remain.

For more information, call the Continuing Education Program at
